Collection of georeferenced field data: creation of the working base

The detailed inventory of the sites, the shooting of those georeferenced sites were carried out during the first year of the project. This comprehensive cataloguing fed the Data Base continuously and directly on the field. The Data Base helped to locate each site within their chronological framework, and thus, to better understand the settlement process in the region. The complete cataloguing of the data on the field made it possible to list all Cham civilisation markers, from the first archeologically-evidenced settlement sites of the 7th century approximately, to the sites where Cham culture and memory still remain nowadays.

At this stage of our research have been listed :

39 sites + 4 museums + private collections in the Thừa Thiên – Huế province, and 44 sites + one museum + private collections in the Quảng Trị province. Almost 15,000 pictures have been taken.

All sites were georeferenced by district. More than 300 GPS coordinates were taken on the field, thus helping for a precise situation of archaeological sites, the first necessary step in establishing a useful archaeo-geography.
